Tribe Swimming Sets Three Lifetime-Bests Sunday Morning

The William & Mary swimming team battled through the fatigue endemic to the final day of grueling weekend, and set three lifetime-best marks on Sunday morning at the Virginia Tech Invitational.  Five of the team's 12 swims ranked among the top-12 in the CAA this season, and 10 of the 12 earned spots in the championship finals tonight on the final day of competition.

200 Back
The lifetime-bests began falling in the first event of the day.  Freshman Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) cruised to the wall in 2:04.91 for sixth place overall, and cut more than 1.9 seconds from her previous best.  Junior Tess Ruona (Medford, N.J.) was 10th overall, checking in at 2:09.36.  On the men's side, sophomore Kade Younger (Newport News, Va.) earned a sixth-place finish of his own in 1:51.63, just ahead of freshman Colby Mills (Chesterfield, Va.) who was seventh in 1:52.13.  The pair now rank 10th and 12th, respectively, in the conference list this season.  Senior Philip Barto (Midlothian, Va.) also made the championship finals after touching the wall in 1:53.05 for eighth overall, and freshman Owen Miller (Kalamazoo, Mich.) was 11th overall with a time of 1:54.89.

100 Free
In the 100 free, senior Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) was 10th overall in 53.19 seconds, and on the men's side of the meet, freshman Diego Cruzado (Vienna, Va.) cut a quarter-second off his lifetime-best to finish sixth in 46.45 seconds.

200 Breast
The 200 breast saw junior Diana Tramontano (Greenwich, Conn.) swim 2:20.50 for fourth place overall, a time that rocketed her up the conference rankings to stand eighth in the CAA this season.

200 Fly
The final event of the morning session was the 200 fly, where freshman Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) took second overall in 2:03.63.  That was a lifetime-best by 0.12 seconds, and improved Graff to 13th all-time among Tribe athletes.  The rookie now ranks sixth in the CAA this season.  Senior Yuka Kuwahara (Ashburn, Va.) was fourth overall in 2:05.61 to improve to 11th in the league, and her classmate Margaret Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) was sixth overall in 2:06.93.

The finals of all four events, as well as the 1,650 free and the 400 free relay, begins tonight at 6 p.m.
