The William & Mary swimming teams opened competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday morning, advancing all 14 entries to tonight's finals. Both the men and the women competed in three events, the 500 free, 200 IM, and the 50 free.

500 Free
First up was the longest event of the day, the 500 freestyle. On the men's side, freshmen
John O'Hara (Fredericksburg, Va.) and
Owen Miller (Kalamazoo, Mich.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, to advance to the championship finals. O'Hara timed 4:36.38, improving his lifetime-best by more than five seconds, and currently ranks fifth in the CAA this season. Miller, meanwhile, touched the wall in 4:37.64 to improve to ninth in the league standings in 2020. On the women's side, the Tribe had another two championship finalists. Freshman
Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) was third overall in 5:02.07, and senior
Yuka Kuwahara (Ashburn, Va.) advanced as the eighth seed in 5:07.11.
200 IM
The top finisher in the 200 IM belonged to the women's team, as freshman
Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) swam 2:06.70 for second overall in the prelims. That was a lifetime-best for the rookie, and ranks her 16th in the CAA this season. Junior
Diana Tramontano (Greenwich, Conn.) made the "B" final, after taking 10th overall in 2:10.17. For the men, freshman
Colby Mills (Chesterfield, Va.) led the way with a fifth-place 1:52.18, a lifetime-best by nearly three-quarters of a second. That improves Mills to seventh in the CAA this season. Sophomore
Kade Younger (Newport News, Va.) also made the championship heat in sixth place, timing 1:52.95, and ranks 13th in the league now. Senior
Philip Barto (Midlothian, Va.) is the top seed in the consolation finals, finishing ninth overall in the prelims at 2:00.99.
50 Free
The final event of the morning was the 50 free, where W&M had four athletes all make the consolation finals. On the men's side, freshman
Diego Cruzado (Vienna, Va.) tied for 10th overall in 21.36 seconds, a lifetime-best by more than two-tenths, while his classmate O'Hara was 12th overall in 21.97 seconds for his second finals spot of the day. For the women, seniors
Margaret Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) and
Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) were 12th and 13th, respectively, advancing in 24.44 and 24.52 seconds. Junior
Tess Ruona (Medford, N.J.) will swim in the "C" finals, after timing 26.12 seconds in her first collegiate race at that distance.
The finals of all events, as well as the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay, begin tonight at 6 p.m.
