The William & Mary swimming teams continued to perform very well at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday night, recording big time drops across the board on the first day of the meet.
500 Free
The Tribe had three athletes competing in the first event of the night, the 500 free. In the women's 500, freshman
Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) touched the wall in 5:04.53, taking seventh overall. Then, in the men's race, her classmate
Owen Miller (Kalamazoo, Mich.) stopped the clock in 4:41 flat, improving to fifth overall. Fellow freshman
John O'Hara (Fredericksburg, Va.) chose to swim the first 200 yards for an official split, and blazed to a lifetime-best mark of 1:39.52 before finishing up the last 300 yards in a calmer pace to finish seventh. O'Hara's 200 time was the fastest for W&M so far this season and ranks fourth overall among the CAA. He now ranks 16th all-time at W&M in the 200 free, less than half-a-second off of the Tribe's freshman record.
200 Individual Medley
In the 200 IM, freshman
Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) improved her lifetime-best by over a second from her morning performance, and finished third overall in 2:05.69. That ranks her ninth in the league this season. Junior
Diana Tramontano (Greenwich, Conn.) won the "B" final with a huge time drop from this morning, placing ninth overall in 2:07.60. On the men's side, sophomore
Kade Younger (Newport News, Va.) also swam a lifetime-best, resetting his best by a full second to finish fifth overall in 1:51.74 just ahead of freshman
Colby Mills (Chesterfield, Va.), who was sixth with a lifetime-best of his own in 1:51.79. The pair now ranks sixth and seventh, respectively, in the CAA this season. Senior
Philip Barto (Midlothian, Va.) also improved from his morning performance, finishing eighth overall in 1:59.18.
50 Free
The final event of the night was the 50 free. Senior
Margaret Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) won the "B" final in the women's race in 24.39 seconds, and her classmate
Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) was close behind in 24.64 seconds for 11th overall. Junior
Tess Ruona (Medford, N.J.) attempted the 50 free for the first time in college in the morning prelims, and came back with a big drop in the finals to place 18th in 25.78. In the men's races, freshman
