Historic Performance Lifts W&M Women’s Gymnastics Past West Chester in Home Opener

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team posted the eighth-best score in school history en route to earning a 194.550-193.775 victory against West Chester in its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon.
 
In addition to earning a spot in the program's all-time top-10 list, W&M recorded season highs on vault (48.675), beam (48.275) and floor (48.825).
 
Katie Waldman highlighted the Tribe's individual performances by winning the vault (9.800) and bars (9.825) titles, while Brianna Greenlow registered the meet's top score on floor (9.800) and Mary Graceyn Gordon won all-around (38.950).
 
Event Highlights
Vault, 48.675 – W&M gymnasts claimed the top two spots on vault, as Waldman's winning score (9.800) equaled a season high, while Taylor White placed second with a career-best (9.750).  Erika Marr (9.725), Greenlow (9.700) and Gordon (9.700) also contributed to the team's best performance of the season in the event.
 
Bars, 48.775 – Tribe gymnasts recorded the top three scores on bars, as Waldman won with a 9.825 and was followed by White (9.775) and Marr (9.750).

Beam, 48.275 – Marr and White led W&M on beam with a pair of season-high 9.775's. Gordon also came up big with a career-high 9.750 to help the squad earn its best total of the season in the event.
 
Floor, 48.825 – W&M's season-high on floor was highlighted by a number of tremendous efforts, as Greenlow won the event with a career-best 9.800. Gordon and Caponi tied for second with a pair of 9.775's, as the score represented a career high for Gordon and a season high for Caponi.

All-Around – Gordon posted the meet's top all-around score with a career-high 38.950, while White nearly matched her career best with a 38.925 to place second. Greenlow (38.825, career high) and Waldman (38.725) also competed in all four events.
 
Next Up
The Tribe will return to action when it competes at a five-team meet hosted by Maryland next Sunday at 1 p.m.
