The William & Mary women's swimming team closed the gap on the leader after a highly successful Friday night session at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, and now stands second with 421 points, just four behind James Madison, heading into the final day. The Tribe earned a total of three all-conference honors on the night, across three different events.
400 Individual Medley
The first event of the night was the 400 IM, and freshman
Grace Tramack (Palo Alto, Calif.) made her first CAA finals appearance a memorable one with a third-place finish. Tramack swam a lifetime-best 4:22.02, the 11th-fastest race in school history, and now ranks eighth all-time among Tribe athletes. Senior
Julia Bland (Sea Girt, N.J.) was right behind her in 4:22.49 for fourth place overall, and the 12th-fastest time ever at W&M. Freshman
Elizabeth Intihar (Columbus, Ohio) won the consolation finals in ninth overall, swimming 4:24.84, with her classmate
Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) stopping the clock in 4:27.61 for 12th overall and sophomore
Rebecca Rogers (Richmond, Va.) was 14th overall in a time of 4:29.64.
100 Butterfly
In the 100 fly, junior
Madeline High (Raleigh, N.C.) swam a collegiate-best time of 55.38 seconds to take fifth overall, and improve to 10th all-time among Tribe athletes. Sophomore
Missy Cundiff (Leesburg, Va.) was seventh in a personal-best 55.77 seconds, improving to 13th in school history, and freshman
Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) stopped the clock in 55.81 seconds for eighth overall.
200 Free
Junior
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.) earned yet another All-CAA honor in the 200 free, finishing third overall in 1:48.33. That was the ninth-fastest single race in school history. Sophomore
Inez Olszewski (New York, N.Y.) was seventh in 1:50.13, and freshman
Katie Stevenson (Wilton, Conn.) finished 10th overall out of the consolation finals with a season-fast time of 1:50.01. The rookie now ranks 10th in school history among athletes. Junior
Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) was close behind her, swimming 1:50.60 for 11th place.
100 Breaststroke
The 100 breast saw freshman
Annie Tuttle (Alexandria, Va.) place sixth overall in 1:03.28. That was the ninth-fastest race ever at W&M. Senior
Lauren Freeman (Fairfax Station, Va.) was 12th in 1:04.03, and freshman
Brooke Lamoureux (Virginia Beach, Va.) swam 1:04.29 for 13th overall.
100 Backstroke
W&M's third all-conference honor of the night came in the 100 back. Sophomore
Anna Kenna (Chantilly, Va.) swam a lifetime-best 54.58 seconds for second overall, with what was the seventh-fastest race in school history. Her classmate
Sonora Baker (Mechanicsville, Va.) won the consolation finals for ninth overall in 56.33 seconds, and junior
Madeline High (Raleigh, N.C.) swam her second final of the evening in 57.21 seconds for 14th overall.
400 Medley Relay
After the diving break, W&M dove back in on the 400 medley relay, taking fourth overall. Kenna led things off with a 54.75 backstroke leg, tied for the ninth-fastest race in school history, before Tuttle swam a 1:03.66 breaststroke leg and Graff swam 55.27 on the butterfly. Cundiff brought the Tribe home, splitting 50.04, and touched the final wall in 3:43.73 for the fifth-fastest relay ever at W&M.
The Colonial Athletic Association Championships come to a close on Saturday. Prelims in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly begin at 10 a.m., while the finals in the mile start at 3:30 p.m. and finals in all other events (including 1-meter diving and the 400 free relay) begin at 6 p.m.
