PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – William & Mary standout gymnast
Katie Waldman won the bars title to highlight the Tribe's efforts at a quad meet hosted by Penn on Sunday.
Penn claimed the team title with a 193.425 and was followed by West Chester (193.250), Bridgeport (192.450) and W&M (191.950).
In addition to posting its second-best team score of the season, W&M recorded a season-high 48.850 on bars. The impressive performance ranks tied for the eighth-best score in school history in the event.
Event Highlights
Vault, 48.200 – A pair of Tribe gymnasts earned top-10 finishes on vault, as
Erika Marr tied for sixth with a 9.725 and Waldman tied for eighth (9.650).
Bars, 48.850 – Waldman's winning score of 9.850, which tied for 10th in W&M's record book, helped W&M equal the eighth-best mark in school history in the event as a team. Marr also came up big and tied for second with a season-high 9.800, while
Taylor White and
Evan Pakshong tied for seventh with a 9.750.
Beam, 47.200 – Waldman narrowly missed out on a top-three finish on beam, as she tied for fourth with a 9.625.
Floor, 47.700 – Waldman was also the Tribe's top performer on floor and tied for eighth with a 9.725.
All-Around – Waldman highlighted a quartet of W&M gymnasts who competed as all-arounders, as she placed second with a season-high 38.850.
Mary Graceyn Gordon (38.375, career high), White (37.825) and
Brianna Greenlow (36.800) also competed in all four events.
Next Up
The Tribe will return to action when it competes in a tri-meet at NC State next Friday at 7 p.m. W&M will then host West Chester for its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m.
