The William & Mary men's track & field team finished up the VMI Indoor Classic on Saturday night, adding five more IC4A qualifiers on the day. In the unofficial team competition, the Tribe finished third overall out of 25 teams, and totaled eight IC4A qualifiers.
- In the pole vault, redshirt-sophomore
Michael Fairbanks (Fairfax Station, Va.) cleared the bar at 4.95m (16-2.75), taking second overall and re-qualifying for the IC4A meet.
- All three of the Tribe's throwers re-qualified in the shot put, placing three-four-five. Junior All-American
KJ Cook (Buena Vista, Va.) led the way with a season-best put of 17.43m (57-2.25), the 14th-best performance in school history, while his classmate
Connor Scott (Mechanicsville, Va.) set a lifetime-best by a centimeter, putting the shot 16.95m (55-7.5) to improve his spot as the sixth-ranked thrower in school history. Sophomore
Troy Yearwood (Chesapeake, Va.) rounded out the trio in fifth place, putting the shot 16.16m (53-0.25).
- Finishing out the weekend was the 4x400m relay, where the team of
Theo Chambers (McLean, Va.),
Jack Bunting (Summit, N.J.),
Daniel Layton (Waynesburg, Pa.), and
Chris Short (Toano, Va.) took fifth overall with a season-best time of 3:19.04. That qualified the Tribe for the IC4A Championships, and was tied for the 10th-fastest race ever indoors at W&M.
William & Mary is back in action next weekend, heading to Annapolis for the Navy Select Meet on Friday, Feb. 21.
