W&M News and Notes
 - Saturday's game marks the Tribe's sixth annual Gold Rush Game, and the fourth against Delaware. Last season, W&M topped the Blue Hens, 84-63. In the previous five Gold Rush Games, the Tribe has averaged 84.8 points per contest in five wins. The Gold Rush Games have also been some of the best attended in the CAA, averaging 5,325 fans. In three of the five years, it has been the top attended CAA home game, including 6,028 in 2016.

- At halftime, the Tribe will honor one of its all-time greats by retiring Marcus Thornton's No. 3 jersey. Thornton is the sixth Tribe player to have his number retired joining Keith Cieplicki (#14), Bill Chambers (#32), Chet Giermak (#32), John Lowenhaupt (#42) and Jeff Cohen (#52). He is W&M's all-time leading scorer and became the first Tribe player to be named the CAA Player of the Year in 2015. Thornton was the 45th pick overall in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, played for Team USA in 2018 and is currently playing professionally in France.

- The Tribe won its 17th game on Thursday night, marking the 14th time in school history it reached the total. The 17 wins rank 11th in program history. W&M has won 18 or more games on 10 occasions in school annals.

- On Thursday, senior Nathan Knight's list of national accomplishments continued to grow as he was one of 30 players named to the midseason list for the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy Men's Player of the Year presented by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. The 10 semifinalists will be announced on March 5, the finalists will be revealed on March 17 and the winner announced on April 5. Knight was selected to the mid-season watch lists for CollegeInsider.com's Lute Olsen National Player of the Year and Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year awards on Jan. 7 and to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List by the USBWA on Dec. 6.

- Offensively, W&M ranks 27th nationally in 2-point field goal % (53.8), 38th in effective field goal % (53.1), 58th in free throw % (74.6) and 61st in field goal % (46.0).

- For the second-straight season, Knight was named one of 10 national finalists for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Feb. 7. In 2019, Knight went on to be one of five finalists for the honor, which will be named in March.

- Knight added to his list of accolades on Feb. 5 being named one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes excellence in community, classroom, character and competition. He is only the second Tribe player and first since Quinn McDowell '12 to be named a finalist for the prestigious honor.

- Knight leads the country with 20 double-doubles on the year. He ranks second in the country in player efficiency rating (35.7), 10th in rebounding (10.9) and 18th in scoring (20.7). He is eighth, among players with a 28% or higher usage, in offensive rating according to KenPom.com (114.7).

- Knight is currently one of only three players in the country averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game this season. He would be the first Tribe player since Bob Sherwood in 1968 to produce such a season and the first CAA player since Kenny Sanders in 1988 to do so.

- With 18 rebounds at Charleston, Knight reached 900 for his career, moving into third place in W&M history.  He became the fourth Tribe player to score 2,000 career points and moved into third place on the scoring list at UNCW. He is just 15 points away from passing Chet Giermak '50 for second in career scoring.  Knight is the only active DI player with 2,000 career points and 900 career rebounds. He is 14th in CAA history in scoring and 16th in rebounds.

- Freshman Miguel Ayesa was a perfect 4-of-4 from 3 in the win at Delaware on Jan. 16. It tied a school record, which Ayesa equaled at Wofford as well. He is one of only two players in W&M history, along with Daniel Dixon '17, to have multiple games of four made 3's without a miss. In league play, he ranks sixth in the CAA at 42.2% (19-of-45) from 3.

- Knight and Andy Van Vliet have been double trouble for Tribe opponents. They are one of only two pairs of teammates in the country averaging 13 points and eight rebounds per game. Knight and Van Vliet are also one of only two pairs of teammates in the country with at least nine double-doubles apiece. Van Vliet is 47th nationally at nine double-doubles and 81st in rebounding (8.6). They both tallied a double-double in the same game six times.

- Junior Luke Loewe is enjoying a breakout season. He ranks second in CAA in 3-point % (43.2) and seventh in field goal % (52.6). According to KenPom.com, he is 32nd nationally in 3-point % in DI games (44.9), 33rd in effective field goal % (62.7) and 38th in true shooting % (63.8). Loewe has more than doubled his scoring from last season to 10.5.

- W&M ranks ninth in the country with eight road wins. The Tribe became the first program in CAA history to start 3-0 with all three wins on the road. It marked the sixth time in program history that W&M picked up eight road wins, which ranks second in program history. The Tribe tied a school record with three-straight road wins to open the year.

- In 19 of its 27 games, the Tribe has outrebounded its opponent and W&M is 14-5 in those contests. The Tribe ranks second in the CAA and 55th nationally in rebounding margin (+4.6). W&M leads the CAA in defensive rebounding % (77.2) and ranks second in defensive rebounds per game (27.9), which rank 17th and 41st in the country.

- The university unveiled plans on Feb. 1 for a reimagined W&M Athletics Complex. The $57-million project includes a revitalize Kaplan Arena and a 36,000-square-foot Sports Performance Center, featuring a strength and conditioning area, a sports medicine space and practice facility. The majority of $41 million already committed was provided by leadership gifts from Katie Garrett Boehly '95 and Todd Boehly '96, as well as Jennifer Tepper Mackesy '91 and D. Scott Mackesy '91. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2020 and conclude in fall 2022.

- The 17 wins for head coach Dane Fischer and the Tribe are tied for the fifth-most among programs with coaches in their first seasons, as Feb. 14. He is one of eight first-year coaches with 17 or more wins this season. Jeff Goodman of Stadium rated Fischer seventh in his power rankings for national coach of the year in early January.
