Julie (Sommer) Leach joined the Tribe Club in the role of assistant director of athletics development in October, 2017.  Her primary focus is raising money for the Tribe’s women’s programs, while she is also very involved with the “Friends” programs.

Leach brings a diverse background of experience and leadership to the role.  She has had a successful sales career, been an entrepreneur and been an active leader in a variety of charity organizations.

She graduated from William & Mary with a Government degree in 1999 as a Dean’s List honoree.  She balanced her academic work with outstanding play on the hardwood, as she captained the women’s basketball squad both her junior and senior seasons.  Leach completed her Tribe career ranked fifth on the school’s all-time scoring list (1,216 points) and was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as a “Legend of the Program” during the 2007 conference tournament. Leach’s academic success was also recognized regionally, as she was named to the District GTE Academic All-American team for the 1998 - 1999 season.

Julie continued to earn accolades as a professional, as she earned awards for achievement and leadership during a sales career working at both Wallace, Inc. and TAP Pharmaceuticals.  She also continued her education, earning an MBA from Regis University in 2005.

Working with her husband, Mike, a Tribe football alumni and 16-year NFL veteran, the pair have, and continue to pursue, entrepreneurial opportunities.  They developed and brought a unique toddler training product to the market in 2015 and are actively looking to invest in local businesses within the Williamsburg community.

During Mike’s stay as a member of the Denver Broncos, Julie co-chaired the team’s wives food drive during the 2007 season.  Upon his arrival in Arizona, she served with the Cardinals Women’s Club from 2009 to 2015 and helped organize charity events throughout the Phoenix community.  Additionally, she was a volunteer at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and Phoenix Rescue Mission for much of her time in Arizona.

She has remained close to the Tribe and has served on both the Tribe Club Board and as the Friend’s Chair for Women’s Basketball.  Beyond this, Julie also volunteers her time and talents as an analyst on the live streaming broadcasts of all W&M Women’s Basketball home games.

Julie and Mike currently reside in Williamsburg and are the proud parents of two children, Ryan and Madeline.
