Tribe Men's Track & Field Earns Three IC4A Marks Friday Night at Penn State

The William & Mary men's track & field team got off to a strong start at the Penn State National Open on Friday night, earning three IC4A qualifiers in two events.

Live Results

- In the weight throw, the duo of KJ Cook (Buena Vista, Va.) and Troy Yearwood (Chesapeake, Va.) continued to impress.  Cook finished 10th overall and re-qualified with a throw of 18.73m (61-5.5), just 12 centimeters off his best set earlier this winter.  The sophomore Yearwood, meanwhile, improved his lifetime-best by nearly seven inches, and finished 14th overall with a throw of 18.22m (59-9.5).  That lifted Yearwood past Adam Williams '96 and Marlon Mattis '85 and into sixth all-time at W&M in the weight throw.

- The Tribe also ran the distance medley relay, and qualified for the IC4A Championships with a third-place time of 10:02.16.  That was an improvement of 18 seconds over last week's race, and was run by the team of Cooper Leslie (Camp Hill, Pa.), Colin Grip (Acton, Mass.), Chris Short (Toano, Va.), and Evan Goodell (St. Louis, Mich.).

The Penn State National Open resumes competition on Saturday morning at 10:40 a.m., with the 400m dash.
