MALIBU, Calif. – William & Mary women's tennis senior
Rosie Cheng closed out play at the Oracle ITA Masters on Friday. The event features the top players in the country and selects the top players from each NCAA Division I conference using criteria similar to the NCAA Tournament selection process.
One day after dropping an opening-round match to a top-10 foe, Cheng fell in the consolation bracket to Oakland's Ava Thielman. Cheng jumped to 4-2 advantages in both sets, but Thielman rallied to pull out the win. She won the final four games to take the opening set, 6-4 before the second set went to a tiebreaker. Tied a four-all in the breaker, Thielman, who was named the Horizon League Player of the Year in 2019, won the final three points to cement the victory.
The Tribe closes out the weekend with the ITA Hall of Fame Classic in Williamsburg at the
Millie West Tennis Facility and the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. Competition begins on Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m. with doubles action.
