W&M Men's Cross Country Takes Eighth at UVA on Friday

The William & Mary men's cross country team turned in a strong early-season performance Friday morning at the Panorama Farms Invitational, finishing eighth overall on the 8K course with 195 points.  Host and No. 22-ranked Virginia led the way in the 16-team field with 35 points, while Michigan State was second with 82 points and Charlotte third with 109 points.  Individually, Michigan State's Morgan Beadlescomb moved into the lead over the final two kilometers, and won the race in 23:58.7.

How it Happened
W&M's JP Trojan (Chardon, Ohio) made a strong push for the win as well, finishing second overall in a lifetime-best 24:08.1.  That was almost 30 seconds faster than he ran at this race two years ago.  Junior Spencer Tsai (Eugene, Ore.) was next through for the Tribe, running 24:48.9 for 26th overall, and redshirt-sophomore Evan Goodell (St. Louis, Mich.) was 58th overall with a time of 25:26.1.  Senior Cooper Leslie (Camp Hill, Pa.) was close behind in 25:29.5 for 60th overall, and redshirt-sophomore Jack Mackey (Alexandria, Va.) closed the scoring in 25:51.2 and 75th place.  Rounding out the varsity seven were redshirt-sophomores Micah Bremer (Lynchburg, Va.) and Johnny Rogers (Vienna, Va.), who ran 26:12.1 and 26:16.9 for 96th and 100th, respectively.

Notes
Trojan's time of 24:08.1 is the fastest in the Colonial Athletic Association so far this season, by 15 seconds ... Ranked 11th in the Southeast Region, W&M beat out South No. 8 Florida (ninth, 286 points) by nearly 100 points, and Mid-Atlantic No. 11 Bucknell by 106 (13th place, 301 points) ... Tsai has finished second for W&M in all three races so far this season.

Up Next
William & Mary heads to State College, Pa., in two weeks for its next race.  The Penn State National Open will be run on Friday, Oct. 18, at 11:30 a.m.
