HAMPTON, Va. – A quartet of William & Mary women's tennis players earn Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State honors, the organization announced on Friday. Juniors
Rosie Cheng and
Natalia Perry garnered All-State Second Team honors in singles, while the Tribe pairing of senior
Clara Tanielian and sophomore
Vitoria Okuyama earned second-team accolades in doubles.
Cheng and Perry both earned All-State honors for the third-straight season, while Tanielian and Okuyama garnered a spot on the second team for the second year in a row.
Cheng was an All-CAA First Team selection after finishing the 2018-19 season with 10 singles victories, including seven in dual-match action at the top two spots. After missing part of the season due to injury, she finished the year winning her final two matches in the CAA Championship, including the clinching quarterfinal win at the No. 1 spot against UNCW. Cheng was named the CAA Player of the Week on April 2. She capped the year ranked No. 17 in the ITA Atlantic Region.
Perry, who earned All-CAA First Team honors as well, totaled 13 singles wins during her junior campaign, including seven at the top two singles posts. She upset nationally-ranked Natalie Novotna of Virginia Tech to earn CAA Player of the Week honors on March 13. Perry, who was the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Runner-up during the fall, clinched the Tribe's regular-season win over James Madison. She was twice named as part of the CAA Doubles Team of the Week in 2019 and finished with 12 victories in pairs action. Perry finished the year being ranked No. 6 in the ITA Atlantic Region.
Okuyama and Tanielian ended the season ranked No. 9 in the ITA Atlantic Region. The pair received All-CAA First Team honors after being dominant at the top spot. Okuyama and Tanielian posted a 10-3 record with nine wins at No. 1 and garnered a national ranking of No. 82 on April 9. The W&M duo clinched the doubles point on nine of the Tribe's 14 occasions claiming the point, including both the CAA Semifinal and Championship matches. They were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on April 27.
