Recent William & Mary graduate
Duncan Goodrich (Richmond, Va.) was named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Track & Field team on Tuesday, after a strong year both on the track and in the classroom. Goodrich is the first Tribe track & field athlete to earn All-District honors since
Brian Waterfield '15 M.Acc. '16 back in 2016, and was one of only two athletes from the Colonial Athletic Association to be selected to an all-district team along with Towson's Abby Gauthier.
Goodrich, a finance major, broke out in a big way this year to cap off his career. Indoors, he broke the school record in the 400m dash that had stood since 1983, running 48.92 in early February, and then lowering that to 48.71 at the IC4A Championships at the end of the season. He also ran a lifetime-best 1:04.59 in the 500m dash, the fastest for W&M since 2001, and lead the 4x400m relay to All-East honors at the IC4A Championships with a school-record time of 3:13.24. Outdoors, he reset his best in the 400m three times over the course of the season and the 200m once, culminating in a dominant CAA Championships in early May. He ran 21.48 in the prelims of the 200m, the fifth-fastest time ever at W&M, then came back the next day to finish second in the 400m dash at 47.85 seconds, the second-fastest race in school history. Goodrich then also led-off the 4x400m relay to the conference title in 3:13.67, the fourth-fastest race ever and the fastest for W&M since 1985.
With his selection to the all-district first team, Goodrich advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot for the first time. Three teams will be selected from all the all-district honorees, and will be announced on Thursday, June 27.
