MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Former William & Mary men's soccer standout William Eskay was named among the Major Arena Soccer League's (MASL) Top Newcomers, the league announced on Wednesday.
Â
To be eligible for the Top Newcomers list, a player must not have played in more than five games in the MASL, the MISL or the PASL prior to this season. Eskay was one of 13 players and five defenders to earn a spot on the team, which included former United States National Team players Landon Donovan (San Diego Sockers) and Jermaine Jones (Ontario Fury). For the first time, voting for the MASL postseason awards was open to all MASL, players, general managers and head coaches, in addition, to select MASL staff. Voting was based on regular season performance.
Â
In his first season with the Harrisonburg Heat, Eskay appeared in 24 matches and finished with 15 points. He totaled 11 goals, four assists and nine blocked shots for the Heat.
Â
During his Tribe career, Eskay was a three-time All-CAA selection, leading the Green and Gold to a CAA Championship in 2017. He started all 76 games of his W&M career, finishing with 58 points on 19 goals and 20 assists. Eskay was an All-CAA Second Team in 2017 and a United Soccer Coaches all-region third team pick in 2016.
