WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary men's soccer head coach
Chris Norris announced the addition of transfer goalkeeper Diego Garciarena (Asuncion, Paraguay / Deportivo Recoleta / Saint Francis (Pa.)) to the Tribe roster ahead of the 2026 spring semester.
"We are very excited for Diego to join us this semester," Norris said. "Diego is a versatile modern goalkeeper. He is an excellent shot-stopper, reads the game well, is good with his feet, and organizes the defense. Diego performed extremely well this fall, earning Northeast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. We are confident he can build on his outstanding 2025 season."
Last season, Garciarena was the NEC Goalkeeper of the Year and first team all-league selection in leading Saint Francis to the NEC Championship match. He was the first player in Red Flash history to be named Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Asuncion, Paraguay native started 14 matches in his lone season at Saint Francis and totaled 64 saves with a 1.28 goals against average. The Red Flash was 8-5-1 in his 14 starts, including a 7-2 NEC record. He notched a 78.0 save % and recorded five shutouts. In league play, Garciarena posted a 0.89 GAA with 42 saves.
Garciarena was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week after tallying a career-high 13 saves in a 1-0 win over eventual conference champion FDU on Oct. 26. He was named an NEC Prime Performer on both Oct. 13 and Oct. 20. In the NEC Tournament, he tallied seven saves in a shutout win over LIU in the semifinals, before tallying six stops in a 1-0 overtime setback in the championship match.
Garciarena started his collegiate career at South Florida, spending both the 2023 and 2024 season with the Bulls. He played for the Desportivo Recoleta Club and was a U-23 starter in Paraguay.
