Men’s Soccer Release Challenging 2019 Schedule

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head men's soccer coach Chris Norris announced another challenging schedule for the Tribe in 2019. The 16-match slate features four conference regular season champions, five NCAA Tournament teams from last season and eight home contests.

In total, W&M's 2019 opponents averaged nearly 10 wins last season with a winning percentage of nearly 60 percent. The Tribe's eight non-conference opponents combined to win 65.6 percent (89-43-15) of their matches in 2018, averaging over 11 wins per team. Three of those eight foes won their conference regular season championship and four made the NCAA Tournament.

Two teams that took part in the last two NCAA Tournaments – NC State (Sept. 10) and UNCW (Sept. 14) – highlight the Green and Gold's home ledger. The Tribe and Wolfpack meet for the third-straight season after playing double-overtime tilts each of the last two seasons. W&M's non-conference home schedule also includes continued rivalries with regular season Patriot League Champion Loyola (Md.) (Sept. 24) and in-state rival Old Dominion (Oct. 12), who finished last season at 11-5-2. The Tribe kicks off its home slate with Villanova on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Highlighting the non-conference road schedule are trips to reigning Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Regular Season Champion Wake Forest (Oct. 15) and the regular season winner of the Big South High Point (Aug. 30). Both teams took part in the NCAA Tournament last season, while the Demon Deacons were the event's overall No. 1 seed and advanced to the round of 16. The W&M-HPU meeting will be the season opener and the teams' first meeting since 2012. The Tribe also travels to Saint Joseph's (Sept. 17) and Coastal Carolina (Oct. 5) in the non-conference.

W&M will play a trio of exhibition matches prior to the start of the regular season. The Tribe squares off with Navy on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex before traveling to VCU on Tuesday, Aug. 20. The Green and Gold wraps up the preseason against George Mason on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. The Tribe is unbeaten in its last seven exhibition matches (3-0-4) and 11-1-8 in exhibition action dating back to 2006.

Along with UNCW, the Tribe's home CAA ledger includes meetings with Delaware (Sept. 6), Elon (Oct. 9) and Hofstra (Oct. 19). W&M, which won its eighth CAA title in 2017, hits the road in league action traveling to Drexel (Sept. 21), Charleston (Sept. 28), Northeastern (Oct. 26) and 2018 champion James Madison (Nov. 2), which advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

The 2019 CAA Championship sports a different format with the quarterfinals and semifinals being played at the top two seeds on Nov. 8 and Nov. 10, respectively. The winners advance to the league championship match on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the highest remaining seed, and the CAA Champion earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
