Former Tribe Women's Soccer Standout Caroline Casey Retires From Professional Soccer

TINTON FALLS, N.J. – Former Tribe women's soccer All-American Caroline Casey announced her retirement from the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) earlier this month.

"Tribe women's soccer would like to congratulate Caroline Casey on an outstanding professional career for the NWSL's Sky Blue franchise," head coach Julie Shackford said. "Although I did not have the honor of coaching her, she was an outstanding student-athlete in her time here. She is one of the most accomplished student-athletes to come through our program, and served as a great mentor to all of her teammates.  We wish her the best in her future endeavors, and we are proud to call her one of the Tribe."

Casey played three full seasons for Sky Blue FC, the team that selected her out of W&M with the 29th pick in the 2016 NWSL draft. During her career she appeared in 13 games, but enjoyed an impressive rookie season. During that year, she appeared in 10 games with nine starts. She picked up five wins and posted two shutout victories, and finished her rookie campaign with 32 saves.

The Chesapeake, Va. native started every game of her Tribe career and is one of the best goalkeepers in W&M history. She ranks second all-time with 301 career saves, while her 29 shutouts rank her third all-time. In her senior season, she posted a 0.88 goals-against-average, with 86 saves, and 11 shutouts. Casey was rewarded for her work on the field in 2016 by being named to the NSCAA First-Team All-American, All-CAA First-Team, CAA Defensive Player of the Year, and NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First-Team honors. She was named Third-Team All-CAA (2014), First-Team All-CAA (2013), and Second Team NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region (2013). She owns a 48-18-12 career record with 29 shutouts.
