Women's Soccer's Season Ends in CAA Quarterfinals

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The William & Mary women's soccer team fell to the Elon 1-0 on Thursday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field in the CAA quarterfinals.

Despite 18 shots and six on goal by the Tribe, Elon's defense held firm for the shutout victory.

The match commenced with the Green and Gold taking several early offensive initiatives, including a shot by Mia Abbey at 3:19, which went over the top. Elon capitalized on a chance at 4:30 when the Phoenix scored from a play that developed off a long free kick.

William & Mary continued to press forward, earning multiple corner kicks and generating several scoring opportunities, notably through Ivey Crain, whose attempts at 12:01 and 18:37 were notable, though saved and off-target.

Despite consistent pressure from the home side Elon's defense kept the Tribe from equalizing. The period concluded with W&M trailing 1-0.

William & Mary applied consistent offensive pressure during the second half, initiating multiple attacks that included shots from Crain and Ella Ledwith. Despite their efforts, including several corner kicks and a shot by Abbey saved by Elon's goalkeeper, they were unable to find the back of the net.

Gwen Doughty, William & Mary's goalkeeper, kept it a one-goal game, successfully saving a critical shot from at the 80:29 mark. However, the period concluded without any change in the score, resulting in a season ending 1-0 loss for the Green and Gold

Doughty recorded four saves during her 90 minutes in goal, facing 11 shot attempts. Crain led the Tribe with eight shots, two of which were on target. Abbey contributed offensively with three shots, including two on goal. Sheridan Brummett added pressure with two shots, one of which was on goal.
