WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 2, 2019) – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team posted one of its best performances of the season but fell to North Carolina, 195.125-192.625, at its Alumnae Meet in Kaplan Arena on Saturday afternoon.
En route to recording the impressive showing, the Tribe earned season highs on vault (48.725) and bars (48.425). The vault score ranks tied for sixth in school history.
Samantha Sakti highlighted W&M's individual performances by claiming a share of the beam title with a 9.850.
Event Highlights
Vault, 48.725 – Sakti and
Erika Marr led the Tribe on vault with a pair of 9.800's to tie for third and help the lineup post a season-high score. The outstanding efforts represented a career high for Sakti and equaled Marr's career best.
Katie Webber (9.775, season high) and
Caroline Caponi (9.750, season high) also came up big in the event.
Bars, 48.425 – Caponi tied for second on bars with a 9.800, while
Katie Waldman (9.775) and Webber (9.725) both tallied season highs to help W&M earn its best score of the season in the event.
Beam, 47.425 – Sakti registered the Tribe's top mark on beam and tied for the title with a 9.850. Caponi (9.675) and
Madison Dwyer (9.625, equaled a season high) also contributed to the team total.
Floor, 48.050 –
Aaliyah Kerr was W&M's top performer on floor and tied for third with a 9.825, while Caponi (9.800), Sakti (9.800) and
Taylor White (9.750) also posted impressive efforts.
All-Around – Caponi was the meet's lone all-arounder and earned a career-high 39.025.
