RICHMOND, Va. – A quartet of William & Mary men's soccer players were recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association as the league released its postseason awards on Thursday. Senior
Julian Ngoh earned All-CAA Second Team honors, while junior
Sam Golan and freshman
Alfredo Bozalongo received third-team distinction. Both Bozalongo and fellow freshman
Alexander Levengood garnered spots on the CAA All-Rookie Team.
It marks the fifth-straight year that the Tribe placed three on the All-CAA teams and the second consecutive with multiple CAA All-Rookie Team selections. W&M's two selections to the rookie team were tied for the most, along with Elon and UNCW, on the 10-player group. Golan was selected to the All-CAA Third Team for the second time, while both Ngoh and the Bozalongo earned their first honors. W&M has garnered 54 All-CAA selections under head coach
Chris Norris and 20 CAA All-Rookie choices.
Ngoh came on strong in CAA play to garner a spot on the all-league second team. He finished the year ranked fifth in the league in goals (6) and eighth in points (14). He tallied four markers in conference action, including two in a win over Delaware. He also notched a second-half penalty kick in the Tribe's 3-2 upset win over No. 21-ranked James Madison on Nov. 2. Ngoh started all 16 matches and added the game-winning goal in the Tribe's 2-0 home win over Loyola Maryland on Sept. 24.
Bozalongo was one of five freshmen to earn a spot on the top three All-CAA teams to go along with All-Rookie honors. He tallied all 10 of his points (2g, 6a) in CAA play, which ranked fifth in the league. Bozalongo was twice named the CAA Rookie of the Week. He leads the CAA and ranks 54th nationally with six assists.
Bozalongo registered the lone three-assist match this season in the CAA with a trio of helpers in the win over Delaware on Oct. 22. He also notched a pair of assists in the 2-0 road win at Charleston and assisted on the game-winner in the Tribe's upset of No. 21 JMU. The rookie midfielder tallied both of his goals off free kicks in the win over Elon, including the game-winner with 11 seconds remaining in the first OT period.
Golan earned third team honors for the second-straight year after being an All-Rookie pick in 2017. He anchored a Tribe defense that ranked fourth in the CAA in the fewest goals allowed this season. Golan started all 16 matches along the backline and played all but 24 minutes this season, ranking second on the team among field players. On Sept. 30, Golan was named the league's defensive player of the week after he tallied a goal and an assist in a road win over Charleston. He also earned a place on the C
ollege Soccer News National Team of the Week for his efforts.
Levengood earned CAA All-Rookie team honors after showing his ability as a dangerous attacking player. He started all 16 matches and ranked second on the team and ninth in the CAA with five goals. Three of those markers came in CAA action with one in each game against the top two teams in the league. He scored W&M's lone goal in the opening minute of a 1-1 draw with regular season champion UNCW before tallying the second-half equalizer in W&M's 3-2 upset of No. 21-ranked JMU.
The Tribe competes in the CAA Quarterfinals in Wilmington, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 8, as the No. 4 seed against No. 5 Northeastern. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FloSports. The winner faces the top seed and regular-season champion UNCW on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m.
