The William & Mary women's swimming team put itself in a strong position on Saturday at the CAA Pod Meet, winning 21 of 33 races to lead against two of its three opponents. With just six events still to come, the Tribe leads Delaware 127-93 and UNCW 141-87, while trailing host and reigning CAA Champion James Madison 159-75.
- The first event of the day was the 200 free relay, and the Tribe set the tone early, picking up wins over both Delaware and UNCW and finishing a close second to JMU. Sophomore
Missy Cundiff (Leesburg, Va.) led-off in 23.33 seconds, and was followed by
Inez Olszewski (New York, N.Y.),
Anna Kenna (Chantilly, Va.), and
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.) to combine for a time of 1:35.59.
- Bull came back right away to finish second overall in the 200 IM, again winning over the Blue Hens and the Seahawks with her time of 2:07.92.
- In the 50 free, Cundiff proved why she's the top sprinter in the conference, winning in 23.48 seconds to stay undefeated on the season in her signature event.
- Next up was the 1,650 free, where senior
Norah Hunt (Stuarts Draft, Va.) added two more wins over UNCW and Delaware, timing 17:43.78.
- The last event of the morning session was the 400 medley relay, and W&M added another win over UNCW. The team of Kenna,
Annie Tuttle (Alexandria, Va.),
Madeline High (Raleigh, N.C.), and
Katie Stevenson (Wilton, Conn.) combined to swim 3:56.62.
- After the afternoon was taken up by the two diving events, the Tribe was back in the pool in the evening. The first event was the 200 medley relay, won by W&M in a furious sprint to the finish. Kenna and freshman
Brooke Lamoureux (Virginia Beach, Va.) handled the back and breast legs in first place, before High took the water for the fly leg. Her split was a strong 25.79, but she was pitted against the reigning CAA Champion in the 100 fly for JMU, and the Dukes edged ahead heading into the anchor. The Tribe had Cundiff, however, and she blazed through the water in 22.90 to claim the win at the wall in 1:46.30.
- The winning ways continued in the very next event, as senior
Julia Bland (Sea Girt, N.J.) stopped the clock in 4:29.99 to win the 400 IM with the fastest time in the conference so far this season.
- In the 100 fly, the junior High swam 59.05, and earned wins over both UNCW and Delaware.
- Bull was back in the water in the 200 free, and defeated the Seahawks in 1:53.32.
- The freshman Tuttle picked up her second win of the season in the 100 breast, timing 1:06.56 for victory over UNCW.
- The final event of the day was the 100 back, where Kenna earned the win in 59.07 seconds versus Delaware.
The Pod Meet will resume Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m., with William & Mary competing in the 500 free, the 200 back, the 100 free, the 200 breast, the 200 fly, and the 400 free relay.
