Raffaela Alhach made her first collegiate victory a memorable one at the UVA Fab 5 Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Tribe rookie knocked off the No. 77-ranked player in the country to highlight the opening day of competition.
Alhach downed No. 77 Amber O'Dell of Virginia in straight-sets, 6-3, 7-5. O'Dell was the ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year in 2019. It marked the highest-ranked win for a Tribe freshman since Jeltje Loomans knocked off the No. 42-ranked player in the country from Virginia in 2011.
The Tribe continues action at the UVA Fab 5 Invitational on Saturday at the Snyder Tennis Center. W&M begins with doubles action against Old Dominion at 9 a.m., before taking on Virginia Tech at 10 a.m. The Green and Gold closes out the day against Old Dominion in singles action at noon.
