WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 26, 2019) – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team was edged by Towson, 194.075-192.975, in its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Saturday.
W&M posted the meet's top score on floor (48.750) and nearly recorded one of the program's all-time top-10 team scores on beam (48.600), but the Tigers held narrow advantages in three of the four events.
Junior
Caroline Caponi highlighted the Tribe's individual efforts, as she earned a share of the titles on bars (9.825) and floor (9.850) with a pair of teammates, junior
Evan Pakshong and freshman
Samantha Sakti, respectively.
Event Highlights
Vault, 47.575 – Sakti led the Tribe on vault and placed third with a 9.725, while junior
Taylor White registered a 9.650.
Bars, 48.050 – Caponi and Pakshong tied for the top score on bars with a pair of 9.825's, while White also contributed to the team total with a 9.700.
Beam, 48.600 – Led by outstanding efforts from Sakti (9.850), White (9.800) and Pakshong (9.725), W&M nearly matched its 10th-best score in school history on beam. Sakti's impressive performance helped her earn a share of second place.
Floor, 48.750 – W&M defeated the Tigers on floor, as Caponi and Sakti's winning mark of 9.850 led the way. Caponi's score represented a career high. Junior
Elizabeth Snoddy (9.725) and White (9.700) also came up big in the event.
All-Around – White was W&M's top all-arounder and placed second with a 38.850, while Caponi finished third with a 38.350.
