WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 4, 2018) – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team posted a record-setting performance en route to earning a 195.100-193.450 victory against West Chester in its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon.
In addition to totaling the third-best team score in school history, the Tribe registered a school record on bars (49.125) and tied for the program's ninth-best effort on beam (48.650).
Additionally, W&M tallied a team total of at least 193.000 for a program-record sixth consecutive meet.
Freshman
Katie Waldman led the Tribe's individual performances by winning all-around with a career-high 39.300 – the second-best score in school history. The Omaha, Neb., native also posted the meet's top scores on vault, bars and floor.
Event Recaps
Vault, 48.650 – Led by Waldman's winning mark of 9.825, which equaled a career high, W&M was just 0.25 shy of equaling the program's 10th-best score on vault.
Katie Webber also came up big with a career-best 9.800 to place second while
Erika Marr tallied a 9.750.
Bars, 49.125 – W&M bettered the previous school record of 49.025 set in 2004 with an impressive 49.125. Waldman and
Evan Pakshong tied for first in the event with a 9.875, which tied for the third-best score in school history and was a career best for both gymnasts.
Erika Marr also posted a career high with a 9.825, while
Monica Ouellet (9.800, season high) and
Taylor White (9.750, equaled career high) also contributed to the record-setting team total in the event.
Beam, 48.650 – Tribe gymnasts earned the top three scores on beam, as the Tribe tied the ninth-best score in school history in the event. White claimed the title with a career-high 9.800, while Waldman (9.775, career high) and
Madison Dwyer (9.750, season high) placed second and third, respectively.
Floor, 48.675 – Waldman and
Aaliyah Kerr tied for first on floor with a 9.825, as the impressive score represented a career best for Waldman. Also performing well were
Caroline Caponi, who equaled a career high (9.775), and
Sophie Harris, who recorded a career best (9.750).
All-Around – Waldman won all-around with a career-high 39.300, which ranks as the second-best score in school history, while White placed second with a career-best 38.725. Caponi also competed in all four events and finished third with a 38.150.

W&M will return to action when it hosts Towson at Kaplan Arena next Saturday at 3 p.m. The meet will be a double dual and also feature the Tribe men's gymnastics team against Army.
