SURPRISE, Ariz. – William & Mary women's tennis junior
Natalia Perry closed out the fall season competing in the illustrious Oracle ITA National Fall Championship on Thursday. Playing in an event that featured the top players in the country, Perry fell in the consolation draw on the second day of competition.
After dropping a match to the No. 2 seed and No. 3-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba of Miami (Fla.) on Wednesday, the Tribe junior squared off with No. 85-ranked Mariia Kozyreva of Saint Mary's (Calif.) in the consolation draw. Kozyreva picked up the victory and advanced to the round of 16 by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Perry wrapped up a strong fall campaign that saw her finish as the ITA Atlantic Region Singles runner-up in October. She ripped through the draw with five-straight wins, including three over seeded players. Her highlight victory came over the defending region champion and No. 36-ranked Natalie Novotna of Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals. Perry led W&M with six singles wins during the fall to bring her career total to 50.
Perry and the Tribe open the dual-match campaign on Jan. 15 against in-state foe Richmond at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The match carries a 2 p.m. start time.
