Women's Tennis Remains Undefeated in CAA Play with Win over Stony Brook

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary women's tennis won its fourth match in a row behind a 5-2 victory over CAA foe Stony Brook at the McCormack-Nageslen Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Tribe (11-3) remained undefeated in CAA play at 5-0. W&M captured the doubles point before posting singles wins at four of the six positions.
 
W&M opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Seniors Emma Pell and Yaelle Vaissaud gave W&M the early lead with a 6-4 win over Laura Ozola and Mila Charles on line three. The Tribe tandem won its seventh in a row and improved to 14-2 overall, 10-1 at No. 3, and a perfect 4-0 in CAA play.
 
Freshman Tilda Larsson and junior Francesca Davis clinched the initial point of the match with a 7-6 (6) victory over Elena Lobo-Corral and Mia Palladino at No. 1. The duo won its seventh at the top spot, upping its overall record to 18-8.
 
Pell pushed the Tribe lead to 2-0, dropping just three games at No. 6. The Tribe senior downed Charles, 6-2, 6-1, for her 13th singles win of the year. She moved to 5-1 at No. 6.
 
Davis ran her win streak to six matches, topping Paisha Douglas, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 2 to extend the lead to 3-0. The Tribe junior tallied her 20th singles win of the season, improving to 11-2 in dual-match play and 3-0 in CAA competition.
 
After a Stony Brook (4-11, 1-4 CAA) win at No. 5, freshman Rebeka Svabikova clinched the Tribe win with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Sanjana Devineni at the fourth post. Svabikova won her fourth in a row and improved or 14-8 on the year.
 
At No. 3, sophomore Mira Kernagis took the opening set from Palladino, 6-3, before the Seawolves player answered with a 6-4 victory in the second. Kernagis rolled to her fourth-straight win in the third set, 6-1, to push her season mark to 17-6, including a 10-2 mark in dual-match play and a 4-0 ledger in league action.
