For the second week in a row, the meet came down to the final relay as the William & Mary women's swimming team went 2-1 at the CAA Pod Meet. The Tribe came less than half a second shy of beating James Madison, instead settling for second by just 13 points, 180-167, while also overtaking UNCW on that relay to win 176-171 and beating Delaware, 239-108. With the 2-1 split, W&M improved to 6-2 (3-1 CAA) on the year, and head coach
Matt Crispino '02 tied the program's all-time women's coaching record with 77 career wins.
Despite the loss to JMU on the 400 free relay, W&M still beat all comers from UNCW and Delaware, and broke the dual-meet record with its time of 3:28.30. That team included sophomore
Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.), freshmen
Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.), and junior
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.). Tiernan also picked up a pair of individual wins, beating Delaware and UNCW in the 200 back to finish in 2:06.80.
Other winners on the day included Sell, who swam 52.32 seconds in the 100 free to beat Delaware. Senior
Shannon Harrington (Philadelphia, Pa.) was second overall in the 200 breast, stopping the clock in 2:22.41 to finish behind UNCW, and junior
Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.) beat JMU and Delaware in the 200 fly in 2:05.31. Her classmate
Morgan Smith (Verona, N.J.) added another win to her weekend, beating Delaware in the 500 free with a time of 5:04.02.
William & Mary stays on the road next weekend, traveling out to Lexington, Va., to face VMI at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11.
