The William & Mary women's swimming team looks for its fourth win of the season on Saturday, hosting Towson at 1 p.m. at the Rec Center Pool. Live results from the meet can be found on TribeAthletics.com.
The Meet
W&M will swim its standard 14 event line-up against Towson, with the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 fly, and 50 free coming before the first break. The second session of the meet will feature the 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 500 free, and 100 fly, then following the final break the meet will come to a close with the 200 IM and the 400 free relay.
Scouting the Tribe
W&M is 3-1 on the year, its best start to a season since 2009-10. Two weeks ago at the ECU quad meet, senior
Jess Crowley (Acton, Mass.) broke the team's dual-meet record with a 1:04.67 in the 100 breast, while freshman
Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) won five races to lead the team to a 2-1 record.
Scouting the Tigers
Towson enters the weekend at 3-1 on the year, with wins over Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, and UMBCW; against a loss to Navy. Jacy Icard leads the way on the team and in the conference, having swum a 56.16 100 back and 2:03.94 200 back to win CAA Swimmer of the Week honors each of the last two weeks.
The Series
Towson holds a slender 11-10 advantage in the series, dating back to 1975, and has won 10 of the last 11 meets. The Tribe last won two years ago in Williamsburg, downing the Tigers 152-110, en route to the CAA title later that season.
Notes
After going 2-1 at the ECU quad meet two weeks ago, head coach
Matt Crispino '02 is only three wins away from tying Christina Jackson (1969-82) for the program record for wins in Tribe women's swimming history ... Jackson went 77-39-1 (.662) during her tenure at W&M, while Crispino is 74-47 (.612) in the midst of his 11th season ... Tiernan and juniors
Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.), and
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.) are all tied for the team lead with six wins on the year ... Thanks to her position on both of W&M's relays, Sell leads the points race by 11, with 82.25 points (20.57 per meet).
