Two races, one week, and two wins for junior All-American
Regan Rome (Dallas, Pa.), who won the Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday morning to lead the William & Mary women's cross country team to a fifth-place team finish. The Tribe scored 155 points to take fifth in the 13-team race, which was won by No. 19-ranked BYU with 47 points. Unranked SMU was second with 89 points, while No. 16 Syracuse (98) and No. 14 Virginia (127) rounded out the top-five.
Rome was in the lead pack all the way, and ran through to the lead in the final lap, winning the 5K race by 3.5 secnds in 17:01.1. Coming into the season, her best cross country time at that distance was 17:44. Classmate
Molly Breidenbaugh (Mechanicsville, Va.) was once again the Tribe's no. 2, running 17:56.2 for 26th overall, and
Audrey Gordon (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was 39th overall in 18:19.3. Junior transfer
Molly McKenna (Newport News, Va.) crossed the line in 18:28.7 for 45th overall, and redshirt-junior
Molly Applegate (Toms River, N.J.) finished the scoring in 51st place, with a time of 18:35.6. Rounding out the varsity seven were sophomore
Deirdre Casey (Princeton Junction, N.J.), who was right behind Applegate in 17:37.8 for 52nd, and true freshman
Charlotte Kowalk (Ijamsville, Md.) ran 18:43.6 for 59th overall in her Tribe debut.
William & Mary has the next two weeks off, but will return to action on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Penn State Open.
