Cross Country Heads to Virginia Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary cross country travels to Charlottesville to take part in the Virginia Invitational on Friday, Sept. 12. It will be a preview of the Panorama Farms Course which will host the NCAA Southeast Regional in November.
 
The men's 8K race starts the event at 8:45 a.m. with the women's 5K race to follow at 9:30 am.

Tribe News and Notes
- In the season opener at the Spider Alumni Open, both Tribe programs finished second behind nationally-ranked Virginia.
 
- Senior Perry Irons and redshirt freshman Caleb Wilcox were named the CAA Runners of the Week following their performances in leading the Tribe at the Spiders Alumni Open. Competing in her first cross country meet as a collegiate runner, Irons covered the 4K course in 13:34.8 to finish fourth out of 167 runners. Wilcox paced the Tribe men, placing 15th overall at 18:35.7.
 
- The Tribe women's team opened the season ranked No. 15 in the Southeast Region. At the Spider Alumni Invite, the Green and Gold men's team topped preseason Southeast Region No. 10 George Mason.
 
- On the women's side at the Spider Alumni Open, five Tribe runners placed in the top 20. Junior Jennifer Tsai (14:00.9) and senior Kelly Ann Sutterfield (14:02.5) finished less than two seconds apart in 11th and 12th place. Sophomore Maddie Gypson (14:10.0) and freshman Veronica Znajda (14:15.2) rounded out the top five in 15th and 18th.
 
- For the men, the Tribe produced an impressive spread with its top six runners finishing within less than five seconds of one another. Senior Luke Ellwood just four tenths of a second back of Wilcox in 16th, while redshirt freshman Collin Walsh was just a second behind in 17th. Sophomore Will Griesmer and junior Hayes Trapp rounded out the Tribe's scoring five in 19th and 20th, respectively.
