RICHMOND, Va. - For the second time in the opening three weeks of the season, William & Mary cross country swept the CAA Weekly awards on Tuesday. Senior
Perry Irons once again earned the CAA Women's Runner of the Week honor, while junior
Hayes Trapp garnered CAA Men's Runner of the Week distinction for the second time in his career.
Irons and redshirt
Caleb Wilcox earned the CAA Runner of the Week honors following the Tribe's first competition of the season at the Spider Alumni Open on Sept. 2.
Irons led the Tribe and turned in an impressive performance at the Virginia Invitational on Sept. 12. She covered the 5K Panorama Farms Course in 16:50.4 to finish as the event runner-up in a field of 110 runners. It was her second consecutive top-5 effort as she led the Tribe to a second-place finish in a 10-team field behind only No. 20-ranked Virginia.
Trapp led the Tribe men, placing 14th at the Virginia Invitational. He posted a time of 25:09.0 over the 8K Panorama Farms Course. As a team, W&M finished fourth in the nine-team field. The Tribe finished behind No. 6 Virginia, DIII No. 4 Johns Hopkins, and Southeast Region No. 12 App State, but ahead of Mid-Atlantic Region No. 15 George Washington. Trapp also garnered the runner of the week award last season after finishing third at the Pirate Invitational in early October.
W&M is next in action on Friday, Oct. 3, at the Firetower Project Run at State Farm Field in Boone, N.C.
