Men's Soccer Adds a Pair of Transfers for 2016 Season

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head soccer coach Chris Norris announced that a pair of transfers will be joining the soccer program on Tuesday afternoon. Goalkeeper Phil Breno, who will be a redshirt junior, and back Hristo Bustamante, who will be a redshirt freshman, will join the Tribe for the 2016 season.
 
"We are excited to be able to add Phil and Hristo to our program," Norris said. "Both young men have exhibited the ability to succeed here, athletically and academically.  In addition, both provide further good options in positions we wanted to strengthen following the rfall 2015."
 
Phil Breno/GK/6-3/ Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll (UMBC)
AT UMBC
Appeared in nine games playing 861 minutes during his sophomore season at UMBC …. Posted a 1.36 goals-against-average with 27 saves … Picked up three victories … Had a pair of clean sheets, including blanking No. 7 Maryland … Picked up a pair of America East Honor Roll honors, and also earned UMBC Academic Semester Honors.
 
HIGH SCHOOL
Was a two sport athlete at South Carroll High School in Maryland … Played four years of varsity soccer … Earned all-state honor mention in 2011 … Tabbed to the all-conference first-team in 2011 and 2012 … Played his club soccer for the Potomac Academy … Also played three years of basketball in high school … He helped his basketball AAU team to the D2 National Championship in 2008 … Was the vice president of his church youth group and Orthodox Christian Fellowship and a percussion leader in the band.
 
PERSONAL
Son of Daniel and Faith Breno … Plans to major in biology and environmental studies at the College … Enjoys being a DJ, video games, and watching movies during his free time.

"Phil has gained great experience with the Potomac Soccer Academy and UMBC.  He is a big, strong, fearless goalkeeper.  In addition, he has very good presence.  Phil is extremely engaged and is a proactive communicator.  He has an aggressive mentality in dealing with balls into the box and is an adept shot-stopper.  Phil's distribution is quite good as well, particularly his kicking game.  We are confident that Phil will compete to start right away."

HIGH SCHOOL
Played three years of varsity soccer at Thomas A. Edison in Northern Virginia … Tabbed a first team all-conference honor as a junior … Also earned his school's student athlete of the year award … As a senior, he picked up First-Team All-Conference honors, was tabbed Conference 13 Player of the Year, and earned a spot on the First-Team 5-A All-Region … Finished his high school career with 26 goals, 28 assists , and 82 points for his career … Named a team captain for his high school team … Led the Eagles to school's second-ever regional semifinal … Was invited to the US National Youth Training Center in 2013 … Played his club soccer for DC United Academy for three years, and one season with the Arlington Strikers Red … Participated in debate team, yearbook, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, and was a Spanish tutor, during his high school career.

Son of Jose Bustamante and Roxana Ferrufino … Plans to major in economics at the College … Enjoys exercising, swimming, reading, watching movies, and spending time with his friends and family.

"Hristo had a good youth career with D.C. United and the Arlington Soccer Association.  Hristo is a very athletic left back.  He possesses good strength, speed, quickness and endurance.  In addition, Hristo is good technically, having spent much of his youth career as a midfielder.  He has an educated left foot and gets forward well from the back.  Hristo is likely to challenge for time at left back immediately."
