The William & Mary field hockey team had four players named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors University Division All-State team on Wednesday, ranking second among all state programs in 2016.  The University of Virginia led all schools with seven honorees, including Player, Coach, and Rookie of the Year, while after the Tribe's four came Liberty, Longwood, and James Madison all with three honorees, two for Old Dominion, and one from VCU.

W&M's four honorees marks the second time in the last three seasons that the Green and Gold has had four named to the All-State team, and the fourth time in five years with three or more award-winners.  Leading the way this year was junior Cammie Lloyd (Midlothian, Va.), who was named to the All-State first team as a forward.  Also a first-team All-CAA selection, Lloyd led W&M with 36 points on 15 goals and six assists, ranking among the national top-25 for both goals and points.  During the league season, Lloyd was the CAA's top scorer with 19 points and ranked second in both goals (7) and assists (5).

The Tribe also had three second-team honorees, including repeat winners Erin Menges (Richmond, Va.) and Booter Ellis (Delmar, Del.).  Menges was also the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and second-team All-CAA and All-Region, and was named to the CAA All-Tournament team.  She led the league in defensive saves with five, and also had a pair of goals and a team-best seven assists.  Menges also ranked ninth nationally in defensive saves, and played a big part in the Tribe ranking fifth in the NCAA as a team with 12 total defensive saves.  For the season, her defensive saves and assists are both career-bests, and rank her tied for 12th and tied for 14th all-time in a single season at W&M, respectively.  Ellis joined her on the all-conference and all-region second teams, after being W&M's do-everything defensive leader.  She had two defensive saves, two goals, and five assists while starting all 19 matches, including tallying both a goal and an assist against then-No. 4 Duke in the season-opener.  Also making the all-state second team was junior Estelle Hughes (Newcastle, NSW), who was also a second-team All-CAA and CAA All-Tournament team member.  Hughes exploded this year into one of the Tribe's offensive leaders with seven goals and four assists.  She had two goals including the winner against Towson, as well as goal and an assist against then-No. 17 JMU.  She ended the regular season on fire, scoring three goals and an assist on the final weekend including a two-goal, one-assist performance against Hofstra to lead W&M to a come-from-behind victory.
