The William & Mary women's swimming team got back on the winning track Sunday, cruising past Delaware 144-77 on the second day of the JMU Duals. The Tribe improved to 4-5 on the year and 1-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Blue Hens fell to 1-5, 0-2 in league play.
W&M won every swimming event on the day except for the 400 free relay, where the Tribe had the best time but exhibitioned all teams with victory already assured. Leading the way was junior
Jess Crowley (Acton, Mass.), who won both of her individual events. That began with a school-record performance in the rare 100 IM, where Crowley touched the wall first in 59.54 seconds. That was W&M's first-ever sub-60 performance in the event, and broke the record of 1:00.43 set by current senior
Allie Christy (Williamsburg, Va.) almost two years ago to the day against Duke. Crowley then came back in the final event of the day to take the 50 breast in 29.94 seconds.
The Green and Gold also had seven more individual victories, and began the day with a 3:52.04 showing to win the 400 medley relay.
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) led the relay off with a 59.09 leg in the 100 back, before giving way to
Claire Williams (Apex, N.C.),
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.), and
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) for the win. Both Sell, 26.85 in the 50 back, and Miller, 1:54.42 in the 200 free, also won individual events.
Also in the win column was sophomore
Morgan Smith (Verona, N.J.), who won the 1650 free in 17:45.23. Her classmate
Annie Miller (Houston, Texas) went 24.34 in the 50 free for victory, and junior
Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.) touched the wall first in the 50 fly with a time of 26.31 seconds. Freshman
Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) won the 100 free in 53.59 seconds, and
Shannon Harrington (Philadelphia, Pa.) rounded out the victors by stopping the cloock in the 200 IM in 2:11.68.
William & Mary has this week off, but will return to action Nov. 17-19 at the Hokie Fall Invitational.
