Women's Soccer Falls in the CAA Semifinals to Top-Seeded Northeastern

Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 5-seeded William & Mary women's soccer fell 3-0 to host and top-seeded Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association Semifinals in Boston on Friday night. With the decision, the Tribe concludes its season with a 10-8-2 record, while the Huskies will advance to the CAA Championship and improve to 13-6-1.
 
Northeastern capitalized on its first chance and scored on a goal off of its first corner and shot of the match. Hannah Lopiccolo sent the corner in, and the ball bounced around dangerously in the box, before Hannah Rosenblatt got to it and knocked it home. Rosenblatt's 12th of the season made it 1-0 Huskies.
 
NU tallied off of another set piece this time a free kick in the 30th minute. Again Lopiccolo took it and sent it down the left side of the pitch to Kayla Cappuzzo, who lofted a cross in the box. Eve Goulet skied to get to the ball and headed it into the back left of the goal. Her first of the season doubled the lead to 2-0.
 
William & Mary fired four first half shots, but couldn't find the back of the net. In the sixth minute, redshirt freshman Sarah Segan had a shot blocked. Following the Huskie second goal, the Tribe picked up its attack. Segan had a pair of shots saved in the 33rd and 35th minute, before freshman Charlotte Hyland had one stopped in the 44th minute.
 
The Huskies just missed a chance to make it 3-0 in the in 37th minute break. Taylor Caparo had an empty net in front of her, but her shot was cleared off of the goalline by a Tribe defender for the team save.
 
Both teams traded early chances in the second half. The Tribe's came from junior Rachel Moore, who fired from distance, but it was saved. Northeastern's Valent Soares Gache fired a shot off of a corner that hit the crossbar.
 
Northeastern added another one off of a corner kick in the 63rd minute. Krista Meaglia sent the ball into the box perfectly off of the head Valent Soares Gache, who directed her chance into the right corner of the goal.
 
W&M just missed getting on the scoreboard 87th minute. Senior Haley Kavanaugh was dragged down in the box. She stepped to the spot, but missed the PK wide.
 
The Huskies outshot W&M by a 22-11 mark, which included a 10-6 advantage in shots on-goal. Senior Clara Logsdon led the Tribe with four shots, while Segan fired three. Junior Samantha Johnson made five saves in goal for the Tribe.
