Jill Ellis '88 Leads US Women's National Team to 2015 FIFA World Cup Semifinals

OTTAWA, Canada – Former William & Mary women's soccer standout Jill Ellis '88 led the United States Women's National Team to a semifinal berth with a 1-0 victory over China in the Quarterfinals on Friday night in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The United States advances to play the top-seeded team in the world, Germany, on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada, and will be broadcast live on FOX. The winner of the match, will advance to the championship on Sunday, July 5 at 7 p.m., while the loser falls to the third place match on Saturday, July 4 at 4 p.m.

Originally from Portsmouth, England, Ellis played forward for the Tribe from 1984-87. She finished her career with 32 goals, 19 assists, and ranks ninth in career points with 83, while earning Third Team All-America honors during her senior season. She helped the Tribe to the NCAA tournament all four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 1987. Ellis earned her degree from William and Mary in English Literature and Composition.
