The William and Mary women's swimming team cruised to victory in 10 events Saturday afternoon in Norfolk, downing Old Dominion 166-122 for its fourth-straight road victory. The Tribe improved to 7-3 with the win, while the Lady Monarchs fell to 4-7 on the year.
Complete ResultsW&M was strong all up and down the line-up, including in the relays where the Green and Gold swept to victory. In the 400 free relay, the team of
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas),
Noelle Klockner (Marlboro, N.J.),
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.), and
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.) combined to swim the course in 3:28.65, breaking the Tribe's dual-meet record. The same women, substituting freshman
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.) for Miller, won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.60, the 14th-fastest race in school history.
In the individual events, the headliner was Miller, last year's CAA Rookie of the Year. She swept the three sprint freestyles, breaking a pair of pool records in the process. First she won the 200 free in 1:53.17, and then the 50 free in 23.44 seconds. Coming back right after the first two diving events, she also won the 100 free in 51.24 before leading-off the free relay. Also in the 100 free, Ustjanauskas was second in a personal-best 52.23 seconds, ranking 16th in school history.
Other winners included sophomore
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England), who swept the backstroke events. She won the 100 back in 57.21 seconds, and then came back for a 2:03.11 win in the 200 back. Freshman
Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.) did some sweeping of her own, taking a broom to the competition in the fly events with times of 2:06.28 in the 200 fly and 56.51 in the 100 fly. Classmate
Rachel Anderson (Clifton, Va.) was the top all-around swimmer, winning the 400 IM in 4:34.56.
William and Mary closes out its dual-meet schedule next weekend, hosting East Carolina at 12 p.m. at the Rec Center. Before the meet, the Tribe will take a moment to recognize the three women who will competing at home for the last time in Howard,
Greta Schneider (Moorestown, N.J.),
Liz Collins (Alexandria, Va.), and student assistant coach
Christa Ann Saunders (Culpeper, Va.).
