WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Junior Samantha Cordum recorded a career-high five-point match as the William and Mary women's soccer team thumped Princeton, 4-1, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Sunday. Seniors Anna Madden and Emory Camper also tallied goals in the match for the Green and Gold. The Tribe pushed its winning streak to five and its unbeaten streak to six with the victory. W&M closes out non-conference play with a 6-1-1 record, while Princeton falls to 1-3-2 on the season.
W&M got on the scoreboard first with a tally in the 20th minute. Junior Nicole Baxter sent a long ball that Cordum was able to track down. The Boise, Idaho native raced into the box and launched a shot into the lower left side of the net. Her fourth of the season gave the Tribe an early 1-0 lead.
Princeton recovered quickly and knotted the game with a goal just 40 seconds later. Off of free kick, Lauren Lazo sent a ball to Alessia Azermadhi. Madden's first goal of the year lifted the Tribe to a 2-1 lead.
Princeton controlled the first couple of minutes of the second half, taking the first three shots. Tyler Lussi took all three shots, and junior goalkeeper Caroline Casey controlled the only one that came on frame.
Cordum scored her second goal of the match in the 62nd minute. This time she stole a pass, and rushed straight into the box. Cordum fired a shot into the top of the goal. Her second goal of the day lifted the Tribe to a 3-1 advantage.
W&M put the finishing touches on its fifth straight victory with a goal in the 76th minute. Freshman Elysse Branton sent a long ball down the right sideline that found Camper.
