The William and Mary women's swimming team began the season on Saturday, splitting a pair of meets on the road and coming away with a dual-meet record and a lifetime-best performance. The Tribe defeated Georgetown 208-80, but fell to Towson 167-127.

Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) led the way with three wins in four events, taking second in the 200 back against Towson but sweeping the 100 back and winning the 200 against Georgetown. Rittenhouse, the school-record holder in the 100 back, went 57.99 seconds in that event and 2:04.81 in the 200 back. She also led the 200 medley relay to a dual-meet record time of 1:45.10, which was also the 12th-best performance in school history. Along with Rittenhouse, the team included freshman
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.), sophomore
Jessie Ustjanauskas (West Hartford, Conn.), and senior
Megan Howard (McLean, Va.).
Howard also won a pair events, sweeping the 100 free in 52.32 seconds, and sophomore
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) was the winner in the 50 free in 23.71 seconds. Classmate
Selina Fuller (Henrico, Va.) won the 1000 free (10:32.83) and the 500 free (5:07.90) both against Georgetown, as did Ustjanauskas in the 100 fly in 57.53 and
Allie Christy (Williamsburg, Va.) in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.95. Freshman
Rachel Anderson (Clifton, Va.) defeated the Hoyas in the 200 IM in 2:11.92, and the 400 free relay of Howard, Miller, sophomore
Georgie Crompton (Brooklandville, Md.), and freshman
Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.) won in both meets with a time of 3:30.68.
Also of note were a pair of all-time top performances. In the 200 fly, Mack swam a lifetime-best 2:07.05 to beat Georgetown, and improved to 13th all-time at W&M in the event. Her classmate Valls defeated the Hoyas in the 100 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 1:05.69 to rank 15th in school history.
William and Mary has the next week off, before hosting Mary Washington at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.
