WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William
and Mary women's soccer head coach John Daly announced the College's 2012
schedule on Wednesday. The 2012 campaign
will see the Tribe play nine home games at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly
Field, while it will hit the road for 10 away contests, which include two neutral
site affairs.
The 2012 slate features tough competition, as W&M will
square off against last season's national runner-up Duke before playing Auburn
and Tennessee, which were 2011 NCAA Tournament participants.
After a pre-season scrimmage at North Carolina State (Aug.
11), W&M will open the season at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field
against the Duke Blue Devils (Aug. 17).
A year ago, the Blue Devils fell in the national championship match to
Stanford, and finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation. Other non-conference home games include
Richmond (Aug. 29), Davidson (Sept. 16) and VCU (Sept. 20).
The non-conference road slate will include two trips into
SEC country. W&M will play in a
tournament hosted by the University of Tennessee in late August, when it
squares off against the host Lady Vols (Aug. 24) and Akron (Aug. 26). A week later, the Green and Gold will travel
to the plains of Alabama to take on the Auburn Tigers (Sept. 2). The non-conference slate will conclude when
the Tribe heads north to compete in a tournament hosted by Villanova, when it
will matchup against Villanova (Sept. 7) and Seton Hall (Sept. 9).
W&M will open its defense of the 2011 CAA Championship
when it plays hosts to James Madison (Sept. 23). The CAA home schedule is comprised of UNC Wilmington (Oct. 4), Northeastern (Oct. 19), Hofstra
(Oct. 21) and Old Dominion (Oct. 24).
In conference road action, W&M will travel to George
Mason (Sept. 28), Towson (Sept. 30), Georgia State (Oct. 7), Delaware (Oct. 12)
and Drexel (Oct. 14). Last season, the
College defeated all of its 2012 CAA road opponents by a combined score of
13-1.
After regular-season play concludes, the conference's top
six teams will advance to the 2012 CAA Tournament with the top two seeds earning
opening-round byes. The No. 1 seed will
host the event when quarterfinal action gets underway on Oct. 28, while the
semifinal and championship matches are scheduled for Nov. 4 and Nov. 6.
