PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (April 6, 2012) - The 14th-ranked William and Mary men's gymnastics team placed fourth at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Temple on Friday evening.

The host Owls claimed the team title with a 347.4, while Springfield and Illinois-Chicago earned a 332.6 and a 332.3, respectively, to round out the top three. W&M totaled a 330.4 and was followed by Navy (330.3) and Army (325.7).

Sophomore Daniel Potemski (82.1) and freshman J.J. Jindra (81.4) both earned all-conference honors in all-around, as they placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Junior Futa Ikeda also performed well and posted a career-high 80.7 to place eighth.

W&M earned a 55.6 on floor and was led by sophomore Landon Funiciello's career-high 14.5, a score that qualified him for Saturday's individual event finals. Potemski also contributed to the team total with a 14.1.

Potemski earned team-best 14.3 on pommel horse to qualify for the event finals and helped the Tribe record a season-high 56.2 in the event. Freshmen Peter Ten Eyck (14.1) and Jason Wang also tallied career highs (14.0) in the event.

Ikeda nearly matched his career best on rings with a 14.1, while senior Steve Deutsch posted a 14.0 to contribute to the team total of 55.0.

The College registered a 56.1 on vault and was led by Potemski's 14.4, which qualified for the event finals. Freshman Michael Deitz and senior Dan Melzar also came up big with a 14.1 and a 14.0, respectively.

Freshman J.J. Jindra and Ikea both qualified for Saturday's event finals on parallel bars and helped W&M post a 54.0. Jindra's 14.0 nearly equaled a career best, while Ikeda earned a 13.9.

Jindra was also W&M's top scorer on high bar with a 13.5, as the Tribe totaled a 53.5 in the event.

The ECAC Championships will conclude with the individual event finals on Saturday at 2 p.m.
