In addition to being elected
team captain, Dan has earned second team Academic All-American designation
while majoring in kinesiology and health sciences with a concentration in pre-med
and a minor in Hispanic studies...He knows his abilities and is a very solid
competitor who can always be counted on when the going gets tough as evidenced
by his having the top returning hit percentage from last year's team...Dan was
our number ten team point scorer while competing on floor exercise, pommel
horse and his best event vaulting where he competes a Yurchenko style vault... At
the New England Sports Academy, he was coached by Levon Karakhanyan who also
coached Dave Locke, a two time USA
Gymnastics Collegiate National Champion for the Tribe...Dan has a very positive
presence in the gym as he has a good technical eye and is very generous in
helping his teammates get better. He is also a certified gymnastics judge which
brings an additional perspective to the gym...Dan will be taking on a bigger
leadership role in the William and Mary community as a member of the Student
Athletic Advisory Committee this year...In preparation for pre-medical post
baccalaureate programs, Dan shadowed the chief of orthopedics at Children's
Hospital in Boston and volunteered in the patient unit at the New England Baptist
Hospital... Dan's parents are Ray and Eva Melzar.
