After moving into second place in our all-time high bar records while earning the bronze medal and becoming a USAG Collegiate All-American at last year’s championships, Michael will start this season as an elected co-captain of the Tribe gymnastics team…Last season, he also earned first team All-American Scholar-Athlete honors with a double major in psychology and kinesiology and health sciences...Michael’s presence truly makes the community and those around him better. For the second year in a row, he will be the director of the Williamsburg NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association) fund-raising and awareness walk and also head up our team’s canned food drive which hopes to match last year’s 3000 pound total. In addition, Michael is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee where chairs the service committee and has been elected by his fellow gymnastics competitors to serve as a student-athlete representative on the USA Gymnastics Men’s Collegiate Gymnastics Committee…At the 2014 Athletic Awards Banquet for William and Mary, Michael received the Bruce Davidson Scholarship given to an outstanding rising senior who excels in an Olympic sport and as a student plus the Comeback Athlete of the Year award after overcoming wrist injuries incurred during the fall training season…Michael’s hard work and attention to detail in the gym has paid off in consistency as he had the top hit percentage on last year’s record breaking squad and currently ranks second on high bar, fourth on vaulting and ninth on floor exercise in the all-time William and Mary records. When the going gets tough, the team can always count on Michael to come through like a champion…Michael trained at Apollo Gymnastics with Jason Furr and is the son of Tim and Jan Deitz.
