WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After
posting outstanding seasons, three William and Mary women's soccer standouts
garnered National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic
All-Region accolades. Mallory Schaffer,
the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and NSCAA Second-Team
All-America selection, led the way with first-team honors, while seniors
Kiersten Harpe and Cortlyn Bristol were named to the second team. Since 2002, the College has earned 18 all-region
selections, which include 12 first-team honorees.
Schaffer becomes the third player in school history to land
on the first-team in consecutive seasons.
In 2012, the Allison Park, Pa., native was named the CAA Player of the
Year, took home Second-Team NSCAA All-America accolades and was named to the
All-CAA First Team for the third straight year.
Schaffer finished her last season on the pitch wearing a Green
and Gold uniform with a team-leading 10 goals and three assists. Her finest moment of the
season occurred in the Tribe's pivotal match against Hofstra on Oct. 21.
Down 2-1 with less than three minutes remaining and with the league regular
season title on the line, Schaffer netted the equalizer to send the contest
into overtime and helped helping the College defeat Hofstra, 3-2.
Harpe garnered All-CAA First-Team
distinction for the first time in her career. For the year, the Lake
Mary, Fla., native tallied two assists from her defensive position and was
named to the Villanova All-Tournament team after an outstanding weekend on the
pitch in Philadelphia, Pa. The anchor of the Tribe's backline, Harpe made
64 career starts in 70 appearances for the Green and Gold.
Bristol earned a spot on the All-Region squad for the second
straight year after the Chantilly, Va., native earned first-team accolades last
season. En route to earning all-region distinctions, she garnered first-team
all-conference honors after totaling 23 points on 13 assists and five goals. Her assist total led the nation at the
conclusion of the regular season and ranks tied for fifth on W&M's
single-season list.
Among Bristol's highlights this fall, were her three-assist
effort in the against UNCW and game-winning-goal efforts at George Mason and
Towson, which helped her earn CAA Player of the Week honors and a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of
the Week.
One of the most productive players in school history Bristol
finished her career ranked tied for fourth on the College's all-time assists
list (28).
