TOWSON, Md. - The William and Mary men's soccer team opened its Colonial Athletic Association road slate on Saturday afternoon playing Towson to a 1-1 draw from the Tiger Soccer Complex.  W&M went ahead 1-0 in the 39th minute, and owned the advantage for most of the match, until TU netted the equalizer in the 78th minute.   In overtime play, both squads generated scoring opportunities but neither connected on the difference maker.  For the year, the Tribe's record goes to 2-7-3 and 0-2-2 in CAA action, while Towson's record goes to 4-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.

In first-half action, the Tribe tallied five shots within the first 29 minutes.  Leading the way was sophomore Chris Albiston, who fired off two attempts that sailed high of frame.  In the 36th minute, junior Zachary Montebell got a great look on goal but was turned away by Towson's freshman keeper Felix Petermann.  However, thanks to a fortunate bounce, the College got on the scoreboard in the 39th minute, courtesy of a TU own goal.  Freshman Ryan Flesch's free-kick was intended for sophomore Patrick O'Brien but before the Williamsburg, Va., native's attempted header, a Towson defender deflected it in goal.  The half ended with the Green and Gold holding a big edge in shots, 11-4, and corner kicks, 7-5.     

Two minutes into the second-half, sophomore Andrew Kestler's attempt to put the Tribe ahead by two was saved by Petermann.  For the better part of the contest, the Green and Gold owned the lead until the Tiger's netted the equalizer in the 78th minute.  Towson's sophomore Daniel Grundei headed in the score off of senior Matteo Vertucci's corner kick. 

In extra minutes, the Green and Gold's best look came when junior Chris Perez roasted a shot on frame that resulted in a Petermann stop.  The College's back line was stout as usually in the overtime session, as it held the Tigers to no shots on goal.  Sophomore keeper Bennett Jones finished the match making five saves in 110 minutes of action.   

For the match, W&M tallied 13 shots with five coming on frame to go along with seven corner kicks.  Towson registered 15 attempts, which saw seven on goal to go along with five corner attempts.  With the tie, W&M's all-time record against Towson goes to 7-5-4.

The Tribe returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 10, as it welcomes Georgia State to Martin-Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.  Kickoff against the Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m. and fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live video and stats.
