WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William
and Mary women's soccer head coach John Daly recently talked with
TribeAthletics.com about senior co-captain Mallory Schaffer's outstanding
career and her candidacy for the 2012 Mac Hermann Trophy and Senior Class Award. The video is available above or by clicking
here.
Prior to the start of the 2012 season, Schaffer was named to
the Hermann Trophy and Senior Class Award watch lists. On Oct. 17, the Allison Park, Pa., native was
selected as one of 10 national finalists for the 2012 women's soccer Senior
Class Award, which identifies the Division I student-athlete who best
exemplifies success on and off the field.
The Senior Class Award winner will be announced during this season's
Women's College Cup Championship, which will take place in San Diego, Calf., on
Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
Out of the 38 individuals on the 2012
MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, Schaffer is one of eight semi-finalists to
return to the ballot from a year ago. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the peak
individual award in intercollegiate soccer and is presented each year in
January at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Since arriving at the College in the fall 2009, Schaffer has
established herself as one of the premier players in America. Since her initial season, she has appeared in
and started every game for the Green and Gold.
Last season, she earned multiple All-America accolades, including a spot
on the NSCAA First-Team. Additionally,
she was tabbed as the 2011 CAA Player of the Year. Schaffer's 41 career goals and 96 points
stand at sixth and seventh, respectively, most all-time in school history.
Tribe soccer returns to action on Nov. 2, when it will
compete in the CAA Tournament semifinals, which will be held at Martin Family
Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. The
College will face the winner of Sunday's quarterfinal match between Hofstra and
Northeastern.
