The William and Mary men's track and field team wrapped up action Saturday at the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, earning an IC4A qualification and winning two field events in the final tune-up before next week's Colonial Relays.
Javelin Throw
In the javelin, junior
Brandon Heroux
(Westfield, N.J.)
broke the meet record and won by more than 40 feet with his throw of 69.17 meters (226-11). The performance is the second-longest throw in school history behind his own school record from the 2009 CAA Championships (69.33m, 227-5), and ranks eighth in the NCAA so far this season. Heroux also punched his ticket for the IC4A Championships in May, where he'll look to improve on last year's silver-medal showing.
High Jump
In the high jump, sophomore
Ben Katz
(Manakin-Sabot, Va.)
cleared the bar at 1.95m (6-4.75) to win the event. It is the second win of his career, and comes one week after he qualified for IC4As for the first time.
Discus
Senior
Dan Klatzkin
(Gaithersburg, Md.)
also came up with the second-biggest throw of his career, throwing the discus 46.02m (151-0) to take second place.
800m Run
In the 800m, senior
Brian Sklodowski
(Newark, Del.)
cruised to a second-place finish in 1:55.03.
400m Dash
Senior
Chris McIntosh
(Owings Mill, Md.)
ran a career-fast 50.18 in the 400m for third place, shaving 11 hunderedths of a second off of his previous best in the one-lap race.
110m Hurdles
McIntosh was back in action in the 110m hurdles, clearing the course in 15.34 for fourth place. Junior
Matt Clark
(Richmond, Va.)
finished just ahead of McIntosh in front of the hometown crowd, timing 15.20 seconds for third place.
