WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After
helping the William and Mary Tribe women's soccer team claim its 10th CAA
conference championship this past weekend, sophomore defender Tara Connors was
named to Top Drawer Soccer's National
Team of the Week. Connors is the third
Tribe player to be named to a TDS National Team of the Week this season,
joining Katherine Yount and Mallory Schaffer, who earned the accolade twice.
A vital member of the Tribe's backline not just this past
weekend, but all season, Connors was named the Virginia 529 CAA Women's Soccer
Championship's Most Outstanding Player.
Connors helped lead a Tribe defense that posted a shutout against VCU in
the championship match on November 6.
On the season, William and Mary's defense has been
spectacular, leading the CAA in almost every category. Of the 330 Division I women's soccer teams in
the country, the Tribe ranks 13th in goals against average at 0.606. The College also ranked 30th in shutout
percentage (0.524), thanks to posting 11 shutouts in 21 matches so far this
season.
In the national polls this week, the Tribe moved up eight
spots to No. 14 in the Soccer America rankings,
while staying put at No. 25 in the latest NSCAA Coaches poll.
The William and Mary Tribe will travel to Chapel Hill, North
Carolina on Saturday, November 12 to face the UNC Tarheels in the first round
of the NCAA Tournament. Kickoff is
scheduled for 2 p.m.
