Blacksburg, Va. - The William and Mary
Tribe women's swimming and diving team shook off the rust from the
extended winter break on Saturday, falling to the Virginia Tech Hokies,
160-121. With the loss, the College's dual-meet record falls to 6-4 on
the season.
Junior
Hailey Hewitt posted a wonderful time in the 200 back, coming
in first with a time of 2:02.64. With her time, Hewitt set the
Virginia Tech Christiansburg Aquatic Center record in the event. With
her victory, Hewitt now has 53 career individual wins, tying her for
sixth place all-time at William and Mary with Katie Grauman.
In the last event of the meet, the 200 free relay, the team of
Burns, Shaner, junior
Molly Emery, and sophomore
Gabrielle Mizerak
touched the wall first in a time of 1:36.35. With that time, the team
now ranks ninth all-time in school history in the event.
In the 1,000 free, freshman
Jen Bentley had a very good swim,
placing fourth with a personal-best time of 10:25.38. With that mark,
Bentley improves her standing in ninth place all-time at the College.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of senior
Emily Burns, sophomore
Emily Bart, Hewitt, and freshman
Sara Shaner had a great race, placing
third with a time of 1:46.78. With that time, the relay now ranks 10th
all-time in the event at the College.
The William and Mary Tribe women's swimming and diving team will
next be in action on Saturday, January 29, when the College will face
both CAA-rival Delaware as well as the University of Maryland-Baltimore
County. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
